Reinhardt University Reports Second Bed Bug Infestation

For the second time since September of 2010, a Reinhardt University, located in Waleska, Ga., has a reported another case of bed bugs in the dormitories. According to new research, bed bugs are not only irritating – they’re resilient. The Journal of Economic Entomology researchers reported that bed bugs have a high cold tolerance and can stand freezing temperatures for several days. The pests use “freeze-intolerant” strategies to lower the freezing point of bodily fluids. According to FOX 2 Detroit, resident Frank Manion withheld his rent after finding bed bugs in his apartment. New York Reports Small Decrease in Bed Bug Infestations

New York exterminators and city agencies that track reports of bed bug infestations saw a decrease in reported cases since 2010. According to the Department of Housing Preservation (HPD), in fiscal 2011, violations in apartment buildings declined in the city from 4,825 to 4,481. Queens was the only borough that reported an increase with a total of 610 violations (a 17 violation increase).
